Landed with only a little flight delay — such a quick trip, wished it was longer so I could take more advantage of that Polaris business class. Even with a flatbed and fluffy blanket, I don’t sleep well on planes so I think I got about 90 minutes of sleep 😦 Dropped the luggage and then spent the day roaming around Porto — such a lovely city and SO MANY HILLS . And the narrowest cobblestone streets. Had a brie and ham sandwich with a glass of white sangria, under the Ponte Luis bridge, walked along the Douro river, visited a couple churches, including the Church of St. Francis aka “the gold church” because the entire inside was gold leaf (no photos allowed so look up Igreja de Sao Francisco). Really dragging by 6pm but stumbled on a place that was on my list, Cerveijaria Gazela, which supposedly Anthony Bourdain loved for their cachorrinhos — a Portuguese hot dog type sandwich and so good, with a glass of cold Super Bock beer. Just trying to stay awake on as much a “normal” schedule as possible to minimize the jet lag. Tomorrow I have a whole list of places to go including the Porto Cathedral to pick up my pilgrim credential which is like a passport you need to get stamped along the way to Santiago to prove you walked the Camino. Night night. Boa noite.
