Last night’s hotel was pretty sketchy, and the included breakfast was the most pre-packaged Continental buffet yet—think muffins and bread individually wrapped in plastic, a room temp hard-boiled egg (no thanks) and equally room temp sliced ham and cheese (nope) but the coffee con leche and granola with yogurt were good. I scarfed them down and hit the road pretty quick.
I don’t want to jinx it but the walks are getting easier. My back and hip feel great—I decided it’s because I haven’t sat at a desk/computer for 14 days. Hmmm blisters are healed (knock wood).
Today was basically forest trails and a few village roads. Redondela, where I landed, is a big-ish town with a lively central area. However I’m staying at an apartment just outside town. It’s so cute!! Might be the nicest place I’ve stayed (except for the Parador in Tui). It’s a group of 6 new-ish “holiday apartments” around a central courtyard. I have a kitchen and the sweet hostess, Fabiola, stocked it with 1 beer, 2 eggs, ham, cheese, water, oat milk, 2 yogurts, bread, coffee and a fresh fruit bowl. Ham and cheese omelet in the morning?
There are 3 restaurants very close and I’m told pizza delivery as well 😮
There’s a cute little laundry “shed” out back and my favorite socks and some other things are currently drying in the Spanish sun.
I walked with a couple of British men for a little bit today and they told me about Hadrian’s wall walk in England. It’s basically pub to pub for a week or so, along Hadrians wall and other Roman sites in England. Sounds cool!
At night before I fall asleep I’ve been watching The Summer I Turned Pretty — I hate being left out of the cultural zeitgeist, so I’m overlooking the acting and predicable story?
Last night the restaurant in O Porriño was playing a cool bluesy song that I shazamed to learn was “La Flaca” by the Spanish rock band Jarabe de Palo which apparently were a big deal back in approx 2000. Adding them to my Apple Music rotation. Check them out!
¡Hasta mañana!
